Fall Card for Mom

Hello there!

I am getting ready to attend Crop & Create Cornwall, hosted by the wonderful Scrapbooks & Cards Today … I started attending Crop & Create events back in March 2015.  I was lucky enough to be seated with another group of first-timers and we have all become great friends!  We typically attend the Toronto and Cornwall events and also get together a couple of times a year at each other’s houses to scrapbook.  I’m so looking forward to spending some time with them at Cornwall next weekend!

Anyway, I was inspired by the latest challenge on the Lawn Fawnatics blog … and created a card I’ll be mailing to Mom tomorrow.  We both love all things fall!

I used a Stampin’ Up! embossing folder to create a woodgrain texture on some brown cardstock.  I was inspired to create a leaf wreath after seeing a recent Lawn Fawn YouTube video where alcohol inks were used on vellum to create some Autumn trees.  I die-cut the leaves using the Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Leaves die and them coloured them using alcohol inks in yellow, red, and orange.  I used the Lawn Fawn Outside In Scalloped Circles dies to create the centre emblem and a sort of “wreath base” to attach my leaves.  I stamped the acorn from the Lawn Fawn Into the Woods stamp set with Memento ink in Tuxedo Black and cut it out using the matching die.  I coloured in the acorn with Copic markers and added clear Wink of Stella over top.

I cut out the sentiment banner using the banner from the Becky Higgins Project Life die set with some cream cardstock and stamped the “so thankful” sentiment from the Lawn Fawn Jump for Joy stamp set with Lawn Fawn Pumpkin Spice ink.

This is my first time entering a challenge, so here’s hoping I do everything correctly!  🙂

Birthday Card for Mom

This is a recent card I did for Mom for her birthday.  2017-09-03 20.37.45

I used Lawn Fawn’s Leafy Tree backdrop to cut out some Lawn Fawn Perfectly Plaid fall paper.  I used some Bazzill cardstock for the brown rolling hills and the green tree leaves.  The sky paper background is from unknown paper – I just had a scrap of it in my stash which I think I put to good use!  The focal point stamp is from Neat and Tangled’s “My Favorite Nut” set, which I cut out with the matching die and coloured with Copic markers.  I popped this element up using foam squares.  I used a clear Wink of Stella pen on the acorn leaf to give it a bit of shimmer.  The sentiment was stamped with stamps from Lawn Fawn’s “Mom + Me” set.

Mom really liked her card – there’s something about handmade cards that are really special.  I think what I like best about cardmaking is that I can indulge my crafty urges (often with just using scraps from other projects!) which can then make someone else’s day.

Hello and Welcome!

Hi there!

I have had this blog for quite some time and am finally making my first post!

I’m Lena from north-of-Toronto. Ontario.  This particular blog is where I intend to indulge my love of all things papercrafting!  I began scrapbooking in January 2003 and started cardmaking (on a more consistent basis, anyway!) in 2015. I have an 8-year-old daughter who loves to craft with me!  My husband is quite crafty as well and is currently into making costumes for our daughter out of EVA foam, contact cement, and a Dremel tool.

By day I’m a busy Human Resources/Finance Manager … the HR side of my job is my favourite.  I studied Psychology in university with a post-degree certification in Grief & Bereavement studies.

In addition to papercrafting, I’m a voracious knitter, spinner, and quilter.  If, during my downtime, my hands aren’t busy in paper or wool, something really isn’t right!

I have just discovered the world of challenges and thought it might be nice to use this blog to document my challenge entries.

Nice to “see” you here!
